Happy National Microneedling Day! There is no better occasion to talk about one of my favorite treatments, because SkinPen® microneedling works with your body instead of simply on top of it.
The science, simply
SkinPen® creates thousands of tiny, controlled micro-channels in the skin. These channels are so small they close within hours, but your body still recognizes them as an injury and responds the way it always does: by healing.
That healing response happens in three overlapping phases:
Inflammation (days 1–3). Your body sends signals and growth factors to the treated area. This is why skin looks pink and feels warm, like a mild sunburn, for a day or two.
Proliferation (days 3 to several weeks). Fibroblasts, the cells that make collagen and elastin, become more active. New collagen begins forming.
Remodeling (weeks to months). New collagen matures and reorganizes, gradually improving firmness, texture, and smoothness.
This is why microneedling is often called collagen induction therapy. The real results come from what your skin builds over the following weeks.
Why SkinPen® specifically
SkinPen® Precision was the first microneedling device cleared by the FDA. It uses sterile, single-use cartridges and adjustable depth, so I can tailor treatment to different areas of the face and different concerns. Precision and consistency matter, especially on delicate skin.
What it can help with
Acne scarring
Fine lines and early wrinkles
Uneven texture and enlarged-looking pores
Dullness and overall skin quality
What to expect
Comfort: A topical numbing cream is applied first. Most guests describe a light vibration or scratchy feeling.
Downtime: Redness for roughly 24–72 hours. Mild dryness or flaking can follow.
Results: Skin often looks fresher within a week, with collagen benefits continuing to develop over the following months.
Series: Most people see the best results with a series of treatments spaced several weeks apart. I will recommend a plan based on your skin.
Is it right for you?
Microneedling is not recommended during active acne breakouts, active skin infections, or certain other conditions, and pregnancy is a reason to wait. A consultation ensures it is safe and appropriate for you.
Celebrate your skin
Fall and winter are ideal times to start a SkinPen® series, with less sun exposure and plenty of time to see results before spring. Book your consultation and let’s build your plan. Individual results vary.
